Red Herring Productions and the Franklinton Preparatory Academy announce a staged reading of The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman and the Members of Tectonic Theater Project.

Red Herring Productions and the Franklinton Preparatory Academy are paring up to co-produce The Laramie Project, one of the most powerful pieces of contemporary dramatic literature. The Laramie Project is the story of Matthew Sheppard, a gay University of Wyoming student who was abducted, robbed, beaten, tied to a fence and left for dead. This hate crime ignited a fiery debate that tore the small town of Laramie Wyoming apart and sparked national and international debate about gay rights and gender identity.

Red Herring’s Executive Producer, Michael Herring will be casting student actors to play roles opposite of adult actors from Columbus’ theatre community at large. “I’ve been teaching these kids acting and theatre skills since September” says Herring. “The challenges have been many but they are a great bunch of kids who come from challenging circumstances. In my 25 years of working in the theatre I’m hard pressed to think of an experience as rewarding as this one” Herring continues. The co-production is an effort to provide at risk Franklinton teenagers with a theatrical experience that they would not have been exposed to otherwise.
